2014 Year In Review & 2015 Preview

2014review

The official Year 2 for Sox Signatures has come to a close, and it was another great year for everyone involved.  The business grew tremendously both in customer base and inventory, and we broke all sales records from Year 1.  Hopefully this growth continues in 2015!

What Worked

We brought in a lot more game used items than the previous year, and the response has been to add even more!  We also focused on adding more mid-tier and higher end items like ROMLB’s, bats, hats and jerseys as opposed to focusing on 8×10’s and game used baseballs, and people seemed to prefer the higher quality vs just getting the lowest prices.  We branched out to bring a few more new players into our game used roster, and while we lost a couple (Lavarnway, Hazelbaker, Resop), we plan to get to Pawtucket’s and hopefully even Boston’s roster to replace them. We also streamlined our shipping procedure and items have been packed safely, securely, and much quicker than in 2013.  Lastly, all of our end of the year sales including Black Friday, Cyber Monday, the 25 Deals of Christmas and others were all a great success.  We saw a much larger bump in holiday shopping than we did in 2013.

What Didn’t

The Weekly giveaways like “Throwback Thursday” and “Futures Friday” on Twitter did not gather the amount of responses we were hoping for.  We know that there are lot’s of options for giveaways on Twitter, and as much as we would like to give away Premium items, there has to be significant interest to merit giving away high-value items.  Wacky Wednesday sales were very hit and miss, with most weeks not drumming up many hits to the site or sales.  We only did 2 signings this year (Brian Johnson and Noe Ramirez), as a lot of player’s were either out of our price range or haven’t reached AA yet (we can’t really travel to Salem or Greenville, so we can only do New England teams).  We’re hoping to get that number back up to 4 (1 in Spring Training, 2 In-Season, 1 off-season).  We lost the blog for a few months due to a DDOS attack.  It wasn’t against Sox Signatures, but a widespread problem for WordPress blogs in general, but we fixed the vulnerability and started the new look Sawx Sigs blog.

What We’re Looking to Do in 2015

We sent out a short customer survey to the members of our mailing list and while they are getting free autographed cards for their help (This is still ongoing, so if you want to join email Promos@SoxSignatures.com), they also provided a lot of good comments and insights as to what Sox Signatures can improve on in the coming year.  First off we will be expanding the autographed card section (with Certified Autographed Cards only at first), to provide customers with much cheaper and authenticated autographs to add to their collection.  Depending on how that goes we may look to increase that inventory even more.  We’re also looking to try out a public signing with a couple players, either with a local business or with a local card show.  We’re also looking to set up a table at a few local card shows to help spread the word and offer some great items without the hassle of shipping.  There’s also a bunch of other irons in the fire that we really don’t want to spoil, so check back often both on the store and our blog!  Thanks for a great year and here’s to hoping 2015 is even better!
