Sox Signatures hit the road to head down to Foxwoods Resort Casino for the First Ever Red Sox Winter Weekend Fan Fest. I missed the Town Hall on Friday night, but after registering I decided to walk around the casino and see if any players were wandering around. After seeing Bill Lee signing for a few fans, I took a quick picture with the Spaceman. Then walking along the hallway between 2 of the casino’s I spied Garin Cecchini and Mookie Betts walking by and was also able to grab a quick selfie with them as well. The highlight of the night was seeing Manager John Farrell try his hand at the craps table. He clearly didn’t know the game and a few people were trying to explain the rules but he looked pretty lost. Watching everyone but him react to each dice roll was quite entertaining.
It was an early morning on Saturday, and I had the 1pm and 3pm autograph sessions (they broke the day up into 1 hour autograph sessions). So I spent the morning hitting up
the #GiftOfSox Vending Machines, (I won a Dustin Pedroia bobblehead!), checking out all the activities in the Premier Ballroom and dropping the occasional twenty into a slot machine. I also sent out a tweet for any followers to come and find me, and quite a few did, so they got some free autographs and other Sox Signatures goodies for going through their troubles. In the Premier ballroom NESN was broadcasting live and I was able to get a photo with Don Orsillo and stood in a short line to grab an autograph and photo with the Rem-Dawg himself Jerry Remy. When 1 finally came around I stood in the autograph line and after being completely lost upon entering the Grand Ballroom, I finally ended up in the correct assigned line. That line ended up being the one for Dustin Pedroia, and after fretting he would leave before I got up to the table, I ended up getting Dustin on an Away jersey that I brought, plus by the time I got up there John Farrell had sat down as well, so I got him on a 2013 World Series hat. Pedroia left about 5 minutes later (to a chorus of boos) and Ryan Hanigan replaced him (slight downgrade in fan popularity there). Next was the photo line where I got a picture with a surprisingly pleasant Jim Rice. Rather than leave, I waited in the room for the 3pm session to start, and when I entered that line I ended up getting Mike Napoli on a baseball. So for my 2 sessions, I got Pedroia, Farrell, and Napoli, which is pretty good for random odds. While waiting in the hallway near the end of the day’s events I was also able to get Christian Vazquez on a baseball and Bryce Brentz on a game issued jersey while they were leaving their autograph sessions. The day’s totals: 2 jerseys, 1 hat, 3 baseballs, and 1 card. Later in the night I caught the John Oliver show (thanks Foxwoods for the free tickets!), and after the show I spied some other players hitting the casino floor. In particular, I wish I could have sat down at the Blackjack table I walked by with Cechhini, Betts, Ranaudo, Barnes, and a couple other Sox sitting at it!
Another travel day back up to Boston (They can’t all be exciting days folks).
Overall the weekend was an excellent experience for me. I got some very high quality autographs, met some very nice fans of the site, took some fun pictures with past/current Sox, and walked away with some great memories. Anyone else at the Sox Winter Weekend? How was your experience?
